The cultural element is always relevant

Château-Chinon’s ' ‘Youth and Cultural Centre’ was very glad to host the cultural show element of Christmas in Europe – one of the three pillars of the event, together with the exhibition and the European buffet. Each delegation has to present either a song, a sketch or a novel composition – and it has to have a Christmas setting.

Some delegations did indeed fulfil what is almost an obligation, while others took a lot of liberties with this theme which rather detracted from the Christmas spirit of this three-part construct.

But before the show got on the road, AEHT president Louis Robert with Christiane Keller at his side, made a speech to express his great pleasure at being in Château-Chinon, saying how difficult it was going to be for future organisers! Jean Michel Wautelet presented him with the poster as well as a box containing bottles of wine – and expressed his wish to meet again in Poznan in a year’s time.

The Poderbrady school had a piece of bad luck - their video display could not be shown on the computer. And finally the Poznan representatives gave out to those present a type of communion wafer which was inscribed with a message expressing the wish to see everyone again in Poznan in 2009.

But as Baron Coubertin once said of the Olympic Games: the important thing is taking part. However, all in all the show was of very variable quality and ought to encourage future participants to pay serious attention to the quality of their acting.
