The National Institute of Tourism training (I.N.F.T.)
Schools and application units
The various schools and application units of the I.N.F.T. develop their activities under the technical and pedagogical guidance of the central services. They are strategically located in those areas of the country which are more oriented towards tourism activities and which, therefore, are in greater need of professionals adequately equipped to serve the requirements of the various tourism and hotel establishments in their particular area.
1. Higher School of Hotel Management and Tourism of Estoril
This school was founded in 1991 and was established in Estoril’s Tourism and Hotel Scholar Centre. Here they provide higher education courses for the hotel and tourism sectors, namely :
- Higher Degree in Hotel Direction and Management
- Higher Degree in Tour Operating Direction and Management
- Higher Degree in National Tour Guiding
- Higher Degree in Tour Operating Direction and Management
- Higher Degree in National Tour Guiding
These courses provide the successful students with the higher level certificate and professional qualification for the following careers : Hotel Direction Assistant, Tourism Technician and National Tour Guide.
The school also develops specialized courses aimed at National Tour Guides, as well as thematic seminars designed for professionals in the tourism and hotel management sectors, namely courses on Tourism Animation and complementary training courses for Hotel Directors and Tour Operators.
2. Tourism and Hotel School of Algarve
This school was founded in 1967 and was established in the former Bishopry of Faro. Today it is located at the site of the former Convent of S. Francisco which has been specially refurbished for its present day purpose. Here basic and continuous training courses in both hotel and tourism areas are taught, namely :

3. School Unit of Portimao (Algarve)
Directly dependent on the Hotel and Tourism school of Algarve, this unit has been teaching Continous Training Courses since 1970. It has recently relocated to more modern and better equipped premises. The following courses are taught :

4. Tourism and Hotel School of Coimbra
This school has been in operation since 1989, in the Quinta da Boavista, and at present the opening of a Hotel Application Unit (Estalagem) is being considered. The following courses are taught at the school :

5. Tourism and Hotel Schools of Estoril
Founded in 1974, this school was the first to be destined specifically for the training of technical professions. Today, it is part of the Hotel and Tourism Scholar Centre of Estoril, and courses of basic training and continuous training are held here, namely :

6. Tourism and Hotel School of Lisbon
This is a pioneering school in the domain of training for the hotel and tourism industry in Portugal. It was founded in 1957 and over the years it has trained thousands of professionals.The following courses are currently taught at the school :

Under the direct responsibility of the Tourism and Hotel School of Lisbon, this Unit teaches basic training and continuous training courses in premises which belong to the Tourism Region of the Blue Coast (Setubal). The following courses are taught :

8. Tourism and Hotel School of Oporto
Founded in 1968 with the purpose of supporting the development of the tourism industry in the North of Portugal, this school teaches basic training and continuous training courses, namely :

9. School Unit of Santa Maria da Feira
This recently renovated application unit is located in a former estalagem (hostel) of the town of Santa Maria da Feira and is under the responsibility of the Tourism and Hotel School of Oporto. Here the following courses in basic training are taught :
