INAUGURAL PARADE AND OFFICIAL OPENING

The official reception set the mood for the remainder of the event, and the joyful throng of delegations lined up ready to march through the heart of Senigallia to the ‘Piazza del Duca’. With the ‘Bandacitadina di Senigallia’ leading the march with the ‘Duca et duchese di Corinaldo - Pozzo della Polenta’, the parade slowly wound its way through the pedestrian streets before marking a pause in the ‘Piazza Roma’ for the singing of the European Hymn, the Ode to Joy. Also marching in the parade were the archers, the drummers and the flag-throwers belonging to the ‘S’bandieratori di Corinaldo’ group.

Spectators in large numbers lined the streets as the parade made its way to the ‘Piazza del Duca’ where there followed an astonishing display of flag-throwing accompanied by drums played with consummate skill. The Italian and European anthems were played and sung again, stirring deep emotions among those present.

A little later came the official inauguration of the exhibition which had been set up in the ‘Palazzo del Duca’. The tricolour ribbon was cut by Senigallia’s senator-mayor, Ms Luana Angeloni, in the presence of Christiane Keller and Alfonso Benvenuto, AEHT president. Next they visited the stands according to tradition, followed by the equally traditional dash by the public with only one thing in mind: to taste the regional specialities, to enjoy the aromas, to admire the costumes and the arrangements of the stands, and to discover the thousand and one novelties of this European exhibition with a taste of Christmas.
